Tragic LODD When Deputy Attempts to Help a Dispatcher We have had a tragic turn of evens involving one of our dispatchers, Kim Eggenberg. She and her husband had been having some ongoing domestic issues over the course of several weeks. She left her shift at 7 am last Monday June 6, 2011 morning and drove her vehicle about a half mile from PD. Her husband was waiting on her and crashed his vehicle into hers. A deputy just so happen to drive up at the exact time and thought it was just an accident. The husband then opened fire on the deputy and then took his own life. The deputy was rushed to Vanderbilt and died early Tuesday June 7, 2011. Kim witnessed this entire event. She not only lost her husband (and father of their 2 year old son) but she lost a friend as well. The deputy was also married and had a 6 month old baby. This whole situation has been very traumatic to our center and I'm not really sure if there is anything you guys can do. I just thought I would share this story and at least get some extra prayers and thoughts for Kim and our department. We are in the process of setting up an account for Kim and her son. I will let you know when that information becomes available. Thank you for all assistance in this matter. From the Officer Down Memorial Page: Deputy Keith Bellar succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained the previous day when he stopped to help at what he believed to be a car accident in Dickson. A Dickson 911 dispatcher had just completed her shift when her estranged husband began following her. As the vehicles traveled on West Walnut Street the husband ran the wife off the road. Deputy Bellar witnessed the crash but was not aware it involved a domestic dispute. When he stopped at the scene the husband immediately opened fire on him, striking him in the head before he was able to exit his patrol car. The man then committed suicide. Deputy Bellar was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he succumbed to his wound the next day. Deputy Bellar had served with the Dickson County Sheriff's Office for six years. He is survived by his wife and 6-month-old son. |
