Update on Jocelyn The main surgeon told us she made it through the surgery like a champ. He was a little concerned that her new heart was slow starting but he had no choice as it was so much better than the one it replaced. The old one not only had lesions on it and also suffered from pericarditis, damage to the heart sac. He said the heart was the perfect size and a heart for a 2 year old does not come around too often. We were so lucky today. He said they were going to bring her out of the anesthesia to make sure she could move her arms and legs. He also said the next 24 hours were the most crucial for Jocelyn. Mommy and daddy got to go back to see Jocelyn around 1:45. Believe it or not Jocelyn was already moving. When pappy and mommaw went back she was trying to sit up, and at one point was reaching out opening and closing her hands like we do when we want her to come to us so we can hold her and rock her. They had to hold off putting her back on sedatives to make her sleep because her blood pressure was so low and on top of that she was running a fever of 102 - 103 degrees. Finally they got her temperature down and her blood pressure up. The nurse told us that it seemed to that point whatever medication they gave her to make her sleepy "she laughed in their faces" They ended up giving her a medication that was originally given to horses. One of the nurses said it figures we would have to give Jocelyn a horse tranquilizer to finally get her to sleep. Jocelyn is still on the respirator, but if she does well tonight they will remove it tomorrow. They told mommy and daddy to get as much sleep as they can tonight because tomorrow was going to be a rough day. That's all for now. Will update again when we know more. Again, thanks for all your prayers, caring and good wishes. Jocelyn still has a long way to go, but she sure has come a long way so far! |
