Yuma (AZ) Dispatcher in Need of Support Dear 911 Cares– I’m writing you in hopes you can add to our efforts in aiding our dispatcher Jesus Gastelum. He and his wife Deanna were expecting their first child, Evan on December 6th. On November 9th, while on the way to the hospital for abdominal pains, Deanna began having seizures and was taken to the nearest fire station where she was transported by ambulance. They discovered that she had developed HELLP Syndrome (Hemolysis Elevated Liver Enzymes & Low Platelets) and was bleeding from her liver. In order to save her & baby Evan, they had to perform an emergency C-section. It is a life-threatening obstetric complication usually considered to be a variant of pre-eclampsia. Because of this, the baby didn’t get the nutrients he needed to grow. He was almost full term, but had the body weight of a 32 wk old fetus. Born on November 10th just after midnight, Evan was only 3lbs 13oz and 16 in long when delivered and did not breathe for about 5 minutes. Evan has been in NICU since then and is expected to be there for another month or so. Deanna spent a week going between ICU and Maternity due to internal bleeding and was just released from the hospital yesterday but is still recovering from the C-section and procedures done stop the internal bleeding. Our family here at the City of Yuma Public Safety Communication Center has begun taking donations (monetary, preemie baby clothes, etc) but we are requesting a 911 Cares activation for Jesus and his family. Any assistance you’re able to provide is greatly appreciated. Gabrielle M. Trevino
