Dannille Vanderpool Case

Dear 911 Cares Supporter,

Dannille Vanderpool was a 2007 911 CARES Activation. We were asked by the Napa Police Department to help Dannille and her daughter. We took every due dilligence in verifying Dannille's condition including speaking to command staff at Napa Police. In addition to asking you to help her, we made donations also. Many of you may remember when we "Passed the headset bag" at a CTDA training event that raised over $1,000.

We have known about this investigation for about two months and we have cooperated fully with the investigation. If anyone wishes to be added to the victim list, contact the investigator listed below.

Please know that 911 CARES has helped hundreds of dispatchers and their families. This is the first time we have been "fooled" by anyone. We join the Napa Police Department and their existing dispatchers in the long victim list. We are saddened that someone who has been a dispatcher of the year twice has turned to deceit for her own gain. In doing so leaves a black eye on her past department, her profession and god knows how this will affect her beautiful daughter who is undoubtedly the most innocent of victims.

I'm having a hard time writing this update. I know you won't blame 911 CARES and we know your support won't be deterred by Dannille's crimes. We work hard to vet the various requests for 911 CARES activations and we will continue to do that. We aren't going to jump to judgement, we'd rather wait for the case to work it's way through the system. We pray for Danille's daughter and will try and keep you updated on this sad chapter in the life of Dannielle, Napa PD and 911 CARES.

Please don't let the actions of one deter you from helping those in need. Those that really need help are in need and shouldn't suffer due to Dannille's criminal acts. Prosecutors say a former Napa police dispatcher duped residents and coworkers into believing she had cancer and bilked them out of tens of thousands of dollars.

Dannille Vanderpool is facing 15 felony counts. Vanderpool, who had worked for the Napa Police Department for about four years, resigned from her job as a dispatcher in late January.

On Monday morning an arrest warrant was issued charging Vanderpool with counts of grand theft, one count of forgery and one count of identity theft.

The investigation leading to the arrest was conducted by the Napa Police Department after members of the staff questioned Vanderpool’s claims of illness and her subsequent actions involving proceeds from fundraisers. Victims listed in the criminal complaint include the Napa Firefighters Association, the Napa Police Officers Association, the Napa Deputy Sheriffs Association, Calistoga Police Officers Association,  Rohnert Park Public Safety, the Santa Rosa Police Officers Association and the Concord Police Officers Association.

Those who believe they may be victims in this case who have not yet been contacted by Napa Police detectives and who agree to be listed as a victim should contact investigator Ron Appel at 253-4852.

Vanderpool was named Napa Dispatcher of the Year in 2006 and 2007, according to notes included in a plea for funds to be donated to her through the Dannille and Sydney Vanderpool Fund organized by the Napa Police Officers' Association at that time.
