CenCom Dispatcher in Need of Support

911 CARES -

We are requesting a 911 Cares Activation for one of our dispatchers.  Here are the bulletpoints:

Dispatcher Sue White has been diagnosed with cervical cancer and Stage 3 Cancer of the lymph nodes.  She has been with CenCom for only 10 months, which doesn't allow her to be eligible for FMLA.  She is anticipating significant medical bills as her doctors are still trying to ascertain the extent of her illness.  Sue has already undergone one surgery and is facing more, with the eventuality of chemotherapy.  Her insurance will only cover her through the end of next month (April 2009).

Sue's husband, Avery, has been out of work on disability with a back injury since 1996, and Sue is the primary breadwinner of the family.  Sue has given the majority of her life to the service of others, and is now facing the fight of her life.  Even when she knew she had cancer, she still came to work and tried to brighten the center, and is a highly valued member of the CenCom team.

Sue has been dispatching off and on for the past 22 years with experience between CenCom, the Lake Bluff Police Department (IL), the Fox Lake Police Department (IL), and the Orlando, Florida Police Department.  Her daughter, Kristy Larson, is also a dispatcher and has been dispatching for 10 years, with experience between CenCom, the Vernon Hills Police Department (IL), and the Libertyville Police Department (IL).

We are currently planning a Fun Run 5K for Sue on May 17th, 2009.  Following the run, we are having an auction of donated goods with the proceeds going directly to Sue.  All monies raised from these various options will be going directly to Sue to help defray some of the medical costs that she will incur.  At this time there is no goal amount, as the extent of Sue's illness and treatment is still unknown.  We have a couple of options for people wishing to donate:

  • If you would like to donate goods/services for the auction, please let us know by email at jen@suewhite.info  You will be given instructions on how/where to send your item(s).
  • If you would like to donate money by mail, checks should be made out to: Sue White Benefit Fund.  This can be sent directly to us at:
