LaVerne PD (CA) Dispatcher's Daughter Has a Special Need

Dear 911 CARES,

Let me introduce myself.  I am the dispatch supervisor for La Verne PD-Los Angeles County, CA.  I have worked for the city for over 26 years.  I am writing this email for an activation of a 911 Cares for a dispatcher at our department.

Her name is Corie Ureno.  Corie has been a dispatcher with the city for over 8 years.  She is a single parent raising a three year old boy (Daniel) and a two year old girl (Molly).  The reason I am writing is that her two year old daughter has been diagnosed with a disorder with her corpus callosum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agenesis_of_the_corpus_callosum ).

This is something I know nothing about except that it effects the person physically and mentally.  She is two years old and is unable to walk.  There is a specialized walker available to assist her in learning how to walk.  This walker runs over $5,000.00.  Our/Her insurance will only cover a portion and the remaining balance that Corie will have to pay to get this walker is $3,000.00.  Corie does not have the means to pay this.  I am hoping that an 911 activation might be possible in order to help her financially in making up the balance.  Corie applied for Social Security to pay for this but was “denied”. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (909)-596-1913 ext 238.

**A note from 911 CARES. We have confirmed the need for this device and are working to see if we can negotiate some type of discount but we know we will need to raise AT LEAST $2,000. The photo shown is not the device she needs and doesn’t help her progress. The new device will help her now and into the future. Here is the information on making a donation:

A custodial account has been set up at Washington Mutual in La Verne.  It will be in Molly’s name with Corie as the custodial person that will access to that account.  WaMu will NOT accept checks there so we are asking that checks be mailed here to the PD and I will make the deposit.  We can also keep track of who has sent donations to where Corie can send them thank you’s.
