Yankton Dispatcher Loses Home and Belongings to Fire
Needs Support

911 Cares,

My name is Julia Hussein, and I am a Dispatch Supervisor for the Yankton Police Department in Yankton, South Dakota. This morning, a fellow dispatcher for our department, Doug Hanson lost his house and all property in a house fire. He was at work at the time, while his 4 children and 2 year old grandson were asleep at the house.  Luckily, they all escaped the house without any serious injury, but they were all dressed only in pajamas, while the windchill  here was about 20 degrees below zero this morning. The fire burned very quickly, and sadly they lost all their belongings and are now left with only the clothes they were wearing. His children are the following ages:  His daughter Stacy is 22 yrs old, daughter Shelby is 18, daughter Shandra is 12, and son Sam is 11. He also has a 2 year old grandson named Jordan. Doug has been with our department for over fifteen years.

Our department has started a collection for Doug and his family, and I know with the holidays right around the corner, they could certainly use everyone’s help as well as prayers. If anyone would like to send a donation, they can send it to the following address:

Yankton Police Department

P.O. Box 176
Yankton, SD 57078

Also, thoughts & wishes can be sent to me via email at jhussein@cityofyankton.org, and I will make sure that all donations, thoughts and well wishes get forwarded to the family.

Thank you so much to all of you for your care and compassion.
