Mohave County (AZ) Dispatcher in Need of Support

911 Cares,

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, Kingman, Arizona is requesting a 911 Cares Activation for one of our own.  Krista Dix (35 YOA) has been a dispatcher with our agency since February 2006.  She joined our team and has been a person full of devotion and care, not only for her own family, her Law Enforcement family, but for the community.

Sadly, she was diagnosed with Cervical and Pancreatic Cancer in August of this year.  She was told it was an aggressive cancer and as soon as she was well enough they would start treatment, including surgery, radiation and chemo.  Alas, she has never gotten strong enough and the cancer has taken over her diminutive body.  She is valiantly fighting, however, it appears as though the monster will not let go. 

Krista has spent the last years being the caregiver for her mother who has battled complications from chrones disease besides working with our department.  Her mother is bedridden and Krista has devoted her time away from work taking care of her needs.  Krista’s true love is her nephew Joely, who is a miracle in himself.  He is the one thing that she will miss besides dispatching.

Krista is not given long to live.  The doctor’s prognosis is that she may not see the new year.  She is currently on Hospice care and is at home.  The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has extended her “leave without pay” status and she is on Short Term Disability.  This creates the issue of her being responsible for her medical insurance premiums

We, at the Sheriff’s Office, want her final days, weeks, months (we hope) to be comfortable and enjoyable.  She worries about finances and we would like for her not to worry and to insure coverage.

In visiting with Krista and her family it’s interesting that she is “dispatching” in her sleep.  She is truly a dispatcher to the core!
