Henderson, NV

A note from Kevin at 911 CARES. (June 9, 2008)

As a trainer, I get the honor of meeting a lot of special people. Christina at Henderson Police ( Henderson, Nevada is just outside Las Vegas ) is one of those special people. She was a student in a class just a few weeks ago. We spoke of classes, joked around and she spent one break sharing some great successes of her team of dispatchers. I just got a call within the last hour letting me know that Christina died this past weekend. Please take the time to get a card and send it to Henderson (address listed below) Any death is a tragedy in our family but this was so quick and unexpected. The e-mail below is from the Henderson City Manager. The 46 member team at Henderson Communications has requested our help to get the word out.

Henderson employee Christina Magalhaes passed away on Saturday. Christina began her career here in May of 2000 as a dispatcher and was, for the last couple of years (since 2005), a supervisor in Police-Fire Communications and a very beloved member of our City of Henderson family.  She was rushed to the hospital on Thursday with an infection in her blood.  After two days of fighting with all her might, Christina was unable to win her battle against the infection.

Many of you know Christina and her mother, Carol Miller, also part of the City of Henderson family.  Carol works in the Detention Center .  Purple was Christina’s favorite color.  Police and Fire personnel are wearing purple ribbons in Christina’s honor.  For the rest of our City family, I am authorizing the wearing of a purple ribbon in Christina’s honor from now until her services, which should take place sometime next week (Wednesday, 6/18 from 1500-1700 PST).  Purple ribbons and pins are available at each of the information desks and with the desk officer on the 1st floor of the ESF building.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Carol, Christina’s husband, Tony, and the rest of Christina’s family. Cards and letters may be sent to:
Henderson Police Dept. - Communications Bureau - 223 Lead Street - Henderson , NV   89015

Inquiries may be made to Barb at Henderson Comm. - (702)267-4902. or e-mail Barbara.Brabenec@cityofhenderson.com
