Wayna Ward We received this e-mail last evening. Today, I was the closing speaker at the MABAS conference in Illinois and I shared the e-mail below. A Fire Chief in the audience stood up and started a collection. THANKS to MABAS and the 100+ dispatchers that took up a collection. The grand total was over $1,100! (update 3-3-2007, it ended up being over $1300!) The check is already on the way to our "sister in need". Please see below and do what you can. Dear 911 CARES: Hi my name is Jonnie Mortensen and I am a communications officer with the Limestone County Sheriff's Office in Groesbeck Texas. Tonight one of our fellow dispatchers, close friend, and my neighbor had her house burn down to the ground. She and her two children were not at the residence when the fire started but they have lost absolutely everything they owned. Wayna Ward is a single mother with a son in the 9th grade and daughter in the 8th grade. She is a very dedicated employee and a great mother.
