See the e-mail below from a dispatcher at Blacksburg , VA Police. They were the neighboring center that backed up Virginia Tech last week. - Kev

I just came back to work today and found a very cute teddy bear and heart shaped stress ball to help me with my grieving process. It is so wonderful to have people like you to think about us during such a horrific time.

I found the web site 911 cares over a year ago. I have been on the site alot and recommended it to other dispatchers. When I walked in work the other evening and saw the bear and stress ball I knew exactly where it came from. I know all the dispatchers at work appreciate it. Thanks for not only that but everything you do for all dispatchers.

9-1-1 CARES Responds to Virginia Tech Incident

Over 800 9-1-1 professionals from around the world attended the NAVIGATOR 2007 conference in Las Vegas.

Hong Kong Fire Signs Banner We asked that they stop by and sign one of three banners we had made with the Virginia Tech colors. 911 CARES was overwhelmed with the response. We had to have more banners made overnight! (Thanks to Chelsea and Jason at the Las Vegas Kinko’s) We have now sent the banners to Virginia Tech Dispatch, Blacksburg Dispatch and Montgomery County, VA Dispatch. Here you see members of the Hong Kong Fire Service sign the cards. Through their interpreter they said “it is our greatest wish that the responders of America know that we have been thinking of them since the tragedy of last Monday. Thank you for allowing us this honor to sign this banner, thank you.”

Hi All,

We have now made personal contact with all three of the immediately affected dispatch centers that worked the mass shooting yesterday at VTU. Below are the addresses for you to send your cards, letters and other goodies. 911 CARES will send a “CARES package” to each center that has a teddy bear, stress book and other stress management tools along with cards of well wishes. We hope you do the same. Thanks to all of you that have made offers of assisting in the de-briefings, we will keep you appraised.
