Redwood City, CA Rachel Angelo A note from 911 CARES. PLEASE POST THIS IN YOUR DISPATCH CENTER OR FORWARD IT TO YOUR STAFF! As we finish "celebrating" National Telecommunications Week, here is a sister of the headset that needs some cards or love from all of us. Let's see how many cards, notes and agency patches we can send her, please read below! Dear 911 CARES, I am writing to request an activation of "911 Cares." Rachel Angelo is a Police Dispatcher with the Bakersfield Police Department. She has been with our agency since June, 2001. Rachel is a sweet, bubbly young woman who is loved by EVERYONE. I sincerely do not know of anyone who doesn't adore her. In October, 2003, she was diagnosed with Leukemia. She underwent inpatient chemotherapy immediately following her diagnosis, then eventually was fortunate enough to be matched with a bone marrow donor. She traveled to Southern California for the transplant and for subsequent follow-up appointments. Of course, all of the hospitalization resulted in her not seeing her children, (Reagan, now 9 years, and Roman, now 6 years) for an extended period of time. (Juveniles were not allowed in her room because of the risk of carrying illnesses they may have been exposed to in school, etc.). This was most heartbreaking for her. In October 2004, Rachel returned to work 4 hours a day in an administrative role. She eventually returned to full duty in the Communications Center in 2005. On Monday, April 9, 2007, we received horrendous news. Rachel's leukemia has returned and, once again, she is hospitalized and will begin chemotherapy in the next day or two. She has such an incredibly uplifting spirit. Always smiling and happy to visit with anyone who stops by her room. I would like to encourage dispatchers from all over the USA to send prayers and Get Well cards to Rachel. They can be sent to my attention and I will deliver them to her. I'd like to "wallpaper" her room with cards, get well wishes or agency patches or anything to decorate her room! If this request can be fulfilled, the cards should be addressed to:
