Paula MacDonald Update First off, let me say Thank you to everyone that sent kind words, prayers, donations, and gifts. It was so overwhelming to know there are so many people out there that care!! January 2nd we had our surgery and everything went as scheduled. I was in the hospital for 2 days and they kept Gar for a week. When he first came home, we had to make the trip back to the hospital 3xs a week for blood work. The frequency gradually went down as long as everything looked good and today he only has to go back once a month!! This is huge since the hospital is an hour drive one-way. After 8 weeks, I went back to work and things are pretty much the same on my end. We are super busy but short-handed with lots of overtime (which I am thankful for) since Gar is still off work. He will continue to be on disability for at least 1 year after the surgery but he by far has the hardest job. He is going to school full-time online to earn his associates degree in accounting since he can no longer do the physical job he had before surgery. In addition, he is keeping our 19 month old, Kyle who is into EVERYTHING!! I know that Gar misses going to work and being around “big people” but he had been so amazing with the kids. Clayton, our 12yo is playing football for the 7th grade team at his school and Gar is at every practice and game. This last year has been very trying for our whole family and we have made many sacrifices but the difference in Gar’s quality of life has been such a huge transformation. He has been given his life back and for that, we are grateful.
