11/21/07 Update
Lisa's son Jacob 9 y/o is the one who passed away and her 14 y/o daughter Amanda is on life support at St. Joseph's hospital in Phoenix. Her other son Michael, 11 y/o was not involved in the accident. The driver, a 16 y/o girl, and the daughter of an LA County fireman, passed away on scene. Lisa's husband Marco is also a LA County Fireman/ paramedic.
The latest update on Amanda is that she is still on life support and they are immobilizing her due to her spinal injury. They are waiting to see if the swelling of the brain will go down before they decide if more surgery to repair the spinal injury can be done. The next 7 days are crucial and Amanda needs ours prayers now, more than ever.
Our department has started a fund for the family to assist in the financial costs. The family is so far away from home and is trying to come back on Friday to go to the funeral for their friends daughter who passed away. A note from 911 CARES. We have limited details on this tragedy but due to the huge loss to this dispatcher, we ask for prayers at this time. This is a California dispatcher that lost 2 of her three children in one crash. Her remaining child is in serious condition in a Phoenix hospital. If there are Phoenix area dispatchers that are able to provide support to the family, please contact our contact person Trisha (see below)
We will post updates as we receive them.
Unfortunately, I have some very sad, heartbreaking news to share. One of our dispatchers, Lisa Gonzales, was in Glamis with her family, and suffered a horrific tragedy. Two of her children, son 9 y/o and daughter 14 y/o were riding in a Rhino driven by a 16 y/o friend. For unknown reasons at this time, the kids were riding near the train tracks and were hit by an oncoming train. The driver died instantly on scene, and Lisa’s children were airlifted to two separate hospitals. Her 9 y/o son was airlifted to San Diego Children’s Hospital and passed away from his injuries last night. Her daughter was originally airlifted to a hospital in Yuma , Arizona but was flown to a trauma center in Phoenix due to her extensive injuries. She is currently battling for her life and the outlook is not good. Lisa also has an 11 y/o son who was not involved in the accident. We are still awaiting more information and currently have our Police Chaplain and an officer driving out to Phoenix to be with Lisa and her family. Please keep this family in your prayers and pass the information along on the website. I can be reached by email, tayers@glendorapd.org or at work, 626-914-8297, or my cell # is 909-904-1046.
I will let you know if we receive any more information….
Thank you.
