Holly Chalos

My name is Brian Weis, and I am the Communications Supervisor for the Lansing IL Police Department. One of my Telecommunicators, Holly Chalos, recently had an emergency c-section on the 15th and gave birth to her baby boy, Bryce. Doctors immediately took Bryce from the operating room and rushed him into pediatric intensive care due to discovering a hernia that was in his diaphragm. This hernia caused Bryce's intestines to be pushed up into his chest cavity, moving the heart and lungs up and over to the upper right section of the chest cavity. Things did not look good for Bryce, in fact he was emergency air lifted from our closest hospital to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Bryce has spent his time there so far, with Holly and her husband, Ronnie by his side. Doctors originally told Holly that Bryce would need surgery to correct the problem. Surgery was done on 042307 and complications arose. Internal bleeding started, and they discovered that Bryce's spleen was also in the wrong place in the chest cavity. Bryce had 3 surgeries that day. During this, his heart started working overtime to compensate and at this point, doctors have had to leave his intestines outside his body until he can adjust. Cardiologists and specialists have been called in for this.

As you can probably see, Bryce's medical costs are quickly rising. We have done a couple collections so far in our department for Holly to assist her in this time. She is actually living in a Ronald McDonald house at 435 Limestone Street (Room 6) in Indianapolis, IN 46202-2819 right now, and the costs are rising for her and her family.

911 CARES HAS STEPPED UP AND PAID THE RMC COSTS!!

Holly is a 6 year veteran of the department, and has received many commendations. The hospital has a website with pictures of Bryce on it, www.caringbridge.org/visit/brycechalos

Thank you,
Brian Weis
