Florida Dispatcher Asks for Prayers

Dear 911 CARES, 

My name is Bill Keenan, I'm a Dispatcher with a Hillsboro Beach Police Dept in south Florida. On the morning of June 26th about 6:30 am, I received a phone call from my sister that my nephew Walter, who is 33yo collapsed and the Deerfield Beach Paramedics were working him. I was like a father to him as his own dad had passed away when Walter was only 13 months old.

Walter was suppose to get married on July 7, 2007 and the morning of June 26th. He kissed his fiancée good bye and started to leave for work. But he turned back and came back into bedroom and asked her for her engagement ring, as he was going to pick up wedding bands that day and wanted to make sure it was sized right. He then closed the bedroom door again, and suddenly she heard a noise and came out and there he was on the floor in respiratory arrest. She started compressions and yelled to his mother in other bedroom to call 911. The fire dept got there in about 6 minutes. and they started too work him with everything ounce of energy they could. You see he was one of them for 12 years. They managed to get some vitals that were good enough to transport and then they took him to North Broward Medical Center and that is where he is and as of today he is starting to open his eyes and seems like his is trying to communicate. But doctors say he was down long enough that he has severe brain damage and that it is going to be a long term recovery.

I am trying to be strong for my family, but it get so hard. I am back to work now and that helps a little, but know there are others out there that have been thru tough thing like I am going thru right now.
