Scott Porter

It is with great sadness that I ask for you to activate the 9-1-1 CARES program for one of our own in Missouri.

On May 29, 2006 Scott Porter, a Communications Officer with the St. Francois County Joint Communications Center completed a 12 hour shift at 3 a.m. Scott had stayed over to help cover a shift.  While traveling home on his motorcycle, he struck a deer and did not survive his injuries.  The officers that worked the accident had been working with Scott previously on shift.

Scott was 27 years old and leaves behind his wife, who is expecting their first child.  Scott is also the son of Washington County, Missouri's 9-1-1 Director Jim Porter.

Scott was a 9-1-1 Communications Officer for 4 years, an Assistant Chief with the Irondale Fire Department for 12 years, and a former Captain of the Leadwood Fire Department for 5 years.

Visitation will be held at the Britton Funeral Home in Potosi, Missouri with the viewing beginning at 5 p.m. The Ozark Fire Department will hold a Memorial service at 7:30 p.m. that evening at the funeral home.  The funeral will be held in Irondale on Thursday.  More information about the funeral will be sent when it has been established.

06/02/06 Update: A trust fund has been established for Scott's widow and unborn child.  We have learned that Scott did not have life insurance.
