A Special 911Cares Message

Rosanna McKinneyYou may know me, you may not.  My name is Rosanna McKinney and I have thirty years experience in public safety communications.  I am the Training Supervisor for the Santa Cruz Consolidated Emergency Communications Center, and I am an instructor and dispatch training advocate.  In my spare time :o), I maintain the PSTC and 911 Cares website.

Less than two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer.  Everyone tells me that if I have to have a cancer, this is the best one because there is a 95% cure rate and a less than 1% fatality rate.  Still, it is the “C” word and that, in and of itself, is pretty scary.

I am taking an aggressive approach and having my thyroid removed shortly after Christmas.  I will be off work for approximately one month and undergo radiation treatment.

Why am I telling you this?  So you will take stock, count your blessings and take a moment to help fellow dispatchers in need.  Not for me, I have a strong support system in my family and friends.  I have plenty of sick leave to use because I have always thought of it as a second form of insurance.  But many are not as fortunate as I.  Please join me in making a direct donation to those on the 911Cares activation list who truly need it or by purchasing 911Cares products.

May the holidays be blessed for you and your families…
Rosanna
