Hello all,

As most of you know, our friend Linda Olmstead (Supervising Dispatcher with the California Highway Patrol) has been going through a tough time battling breast cancer, surgery and now taxing treatments. What you may not know is the expense of all of these treatments and associated costs.

Many people that are close to Linda have been supporting her in many ways. A few of these back stage angels have been e-mailing 911 CARES to help. We are happy to do so. Knowing Linda, I wanted to check with her first. After a very honest and long chat yesterday, Linda has allowed me to post a request for assistance. This is no small feat friends, Linda is a very proud young lady and as a caregiver, she isn't used to being a care-receiver! Her allowing this plea illustrates how much she needs our help.

As many of you know, Linda is off of work until at least late February, 2004. As a work-aholic, overtime is no more and finances are low. Without detail, co-payments are very expensive as are her medications. Though she is obviously insured, in this managed care world, her co-payments are extensive. Here is the 911 CARES plan of attack to help Linda financially and emotionally!

PHASE 1: You can donate funds directly to Linda via 911 CARES. E-mail either kevin@pstc911.com or pstc911@aol.com and we will send you a donation form. We can e-mail or fax it. This form will allow you to donate via VISA, MasterCard or check. OR you can drop a check directly to:

911 CARES - Linda
PO Box 5508
Redwood City, CA 94063
  - MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO LINDA OLMSTEAD!

We will pass them on directly to Linda along with your cards of support or goodies you may send. 911 CARES will process your credit card and funds will be given directly to Linda with a list of donors. Please understand that even a small donation makes a difference.

PHASE 2: Linda has agreed to design a special dispatcher - breast cancer pin. Our artists will work with Linda and we will have 1,000 made at our expense. Anyone that donates $20 or more in the phase one project will get a free pin as a thanks from us.

FYI: Your cards, support and love are welcome and encouraged. Linda has been a support to many of us individually and as a profession. When I asked permission to start a 911 CARES activation yesterday, Linda was a combination of relieved, sad, overwhelmed but most of all, thankful. She needs us folks, let's show her how 9-1-1 does care like she cares about us.

Please print and post this in your dispatch center, forward it to any 911 list that you belong to or forward it to your fellow dispatchers and friends. In numbers, we can support Linda and help pay those bills at the same time.

If this is your first experience with 911 CARES, we welcome you. Visit our site at www.911cares.com    In addition to selling cool 911 stuff for our profession, we have listed just a few of the 911 CARES projects at the bottom of the page.

Thanks everyone
