911 CARES Activation Notification

On Wednesday, August 13th, San Bernardino County Fire Dispatcher Abbi Hutcherson was contacted while she was on duty that her daughter was being transported by Mercy Air to Loma Linda University Medical Center. Her 2 yr old daughter Madilyne died the following day due to head trauma and other injuries. The circumstances of her death are being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office Homicide Division. Abbi's ex-boyfriend is in custody for the crime and details of the charges against him are not yet available.

San Bernardino County Fire and 911 CARES is asking for your urgent assistance! According to Communications Manager Dave Dowling, the mortuary where Madilyne is being prepared for burial refuses to waive or postpone the $3,000 burial fee which is not covered by insurance. They have determined they will cancel the burial service without payment. Abbi does not have the financial means to pay the $3,000 and needs our help.

We need to raise $3,000 by 5pm on August 20th. Please e-mail Kevin with your pledge of a donation OR call PSTC, 911 CARES at 650-591-7911 and we can take your donation via Master Card or VISA. We have spoken with Manager Dave Dowling and have told him we would do everything humanly possible to raise the money and that 911 CARES has never lacked the spirit to make things happen. PSTC will personally make delivery of the $3,000 mortuary check prior to the service to ensure the child is given a respectful burial. Any money over the $3,000 burial charge will be added to a Madilyn Lappe Memorial Fund that is being set up.

PSTC 911 CARES will match the first $500 that is donated to help the cause. We will also post updates on the 911 CARES web site at www.911cares.com

Cards and letters of support may be sent to either:
Abbi Hutcherson
C/O ConFire – 911 CARES
1743 W. Mirro Way
Rialto, CA 92376

Checks to cover your pledges or checks to be added to the memorial fund should be sent to:
911 CARES
PO Box 5508
Redwood City, CA 94063

Make checks payable to PSTC 911 CARES

MAKE SURE YOU CALL OR E-MAIL WITH YOUR PLEDGE OF A CHECK SO THAT WE ENSURE THE BURIAL OF 2 YEAR OLD MADILYN IS NOT CANCELLED. WE WILL UPDATE THE 911 CARES WEB SITE ONCE THE INITIAL $3,000 IS RAISED.
CALL PSTC AT 650-591-7911 OR E-MAIL KEVIN

Thank You

911 Cares Update August 21, 2003 8 a.m.

PSTC and 911 Cares is proud to anounce that the burial fund has reached $2800 in donations as of 0800 August 21st. PSTC added $200 and we have already delivered the check needed to ensure a proper burial today.

We have had many discussions with the San Bernardino Fire Communications Center, Abbi's Communications Manager. The agency chaplain is the laison to the family and he is collecting a list of additional financial needs. These needs may include a proper headstone for Madelyne, the medical related costs ( on-scene medics, Mercy Life Flight and ER bills ) that may not be completely covered by insurance.

We would also like to thank Brian Acosta who has agreed to drop by the dispatch center prior to the memorial to drop by some snacks and a few hugs. We have also sent along cards on the behalf of all donors thus far.

We will update the page sometime Friday with details of the memorial service and burial. If anyone from Southern California attends, please let us know.

We encourage your continued support and donations, we have been assured by the Fire Department that Abbi is in need and this will be a long road for her and her family.

Our deepest thanks
